If you live in the Red River Radio listening area, chances are good that you’re familiar with the friendly voice of News Producer Kate Archer Kent. As a morning news host, she is the first voice that many of us hear each day. She’s also the mother of four young children, including a pair of twins.
Kate recently presented an acclaimed sermon on the topic of balancing work, life and motherhood at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church of Shreveport. In this special episode of the All Y’all podcast, we present a recording of Kate reading her touching, funny and challenging sermon. If it doesn’t make you think hard about how American society treats working parents, well, we don’t know what would.

Sponsors Make Our Live Events Possible
This is probably a little bit of “inside baseball,” but our live storytelling events have to sell out in order to break even. We spend money on everything from building rental and insurance to snacks at intermission, musician’s fees and advertising. Honestly, we could not go on doing the live events without the support of sponsors including season sponsor Holiday Lanes, Maccentric, Rhino Coffee, Shreveport Magazine and Twisted Root Burger Company. Special support for All Y’all Live: “Momma & Daddy” is being provided by John E. Settle, Jr. – Attorney at Law and SandysDance Center.
If you love these live events, please thank our sponsors with your patronage. Oh, and thanks for reading the sponsorship paragraph! 🙂
Such a powerful message, and so much more intensified by the faint sound of a baby crying in the distance as Kate doesn’t miss a beat in her delivery. A lump in my throat developed as I remember being a young mother trying to keep my hands on the rope.
Kate and Alex are a powerhouse partnership allowing each other to contribute to their professional responsibilities while personally committing to shared roles as parents. Their story evoked memories of how challenging our lives were supporting three children under 5 as Terry pursued Medical School and residency while I worked full time and finished graduate school. I know our ignorance was a form of bliss as we believed our life was normal and that we would achieve our dreams no worse for wear…. Ode to the days of our youth and for lots of rope provided by faith, friends and family Heartfelt thanks to Kate and Alex for sharing their story, for all they contribute to our community and blessings to their beautiful and precious family!
This is so amazing, a powerful message to all of us who are parents and who employ parents. It’s a difficult tightrope-walk and we all need to understand we can’t have it all. But we can focus on what’s truly important, and this is a great reminder.
